"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Gen. 1:1 RSV). These familiar words are the first found in the Bible and the first we will encounter in our new Bible Study on the Book of Genesis. Please take advantage of this opportunity to become better acquainted with God's Word, and to cultivate a personal relationship with our Lord. Our goal in studying the Bible is to gain a better understanding of God's creation, His will in our lives, and to share the wealth of information and spiritual nourishment found in the Bible. If we call ourselves Christians, we have the duty to know what that means. The Magisterium of the Church and the Holy Bible are the definitive respondants to the meaning of Christianity.
This study of Genesis will encompass a 27 week period, divided into two semesters, beginning September 18, 2002. Registration begins after the English masses of that week (Sept. 14th and 15th). The hope is to provide a structured environment for forming a foundation of faith based on the teachings and guidance of our Holy Catholic Church. All you need to bring with you is a Catholic Bible, writing material, and a spirit open to the will of the Lord. * A $20 material fee covers all handouts for each semester and will be waived if a student provides their own material.
May the Love of Christ, the Enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, and the Blessing of God the Father be with each and every one of you.
Disclaimer: I do not wish to present myself as an expert in either theology, history, or scriptural interpretation. I am merely someone who is attempting to answer the call of Christ. The ultimate authority and interpreter of scripture is our Holy Catholic Church. If at any point I deviate from the teachings of the Church, please correct me, alfredo@nevarez.net, as this is my shortcoming and in no way meant to be an expression of my views superceding those of the Church founded by Jesus Christ.
